8/21/2023 0 Comments Download dishonored game play![]() There are three skill trees, and about halfway down the rogue tree, the game abruptly more or less turns into another Thief game. The voice acting in that game is atrocious, and the writing is puerile, but the level design is first-rate, Arkane beginning to really flex its wings. If you want another game that feels a lot like Thief, check out Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. But Garrett's stealth power was definitely supernatural in scope, he wasn't just an ordinary man. I ended up rather preferring that approach, because when I got through a mission, it meant I'd been smart and played well, I didn't just stand around in dark corners. Since I was playing it as a pure stealth game, the fact that Corvo was a magic assassin and could almost instantly kill anyone ended up not mattering to me I was using him as a low-rent Garrett. You couldn't just stand in a shadow and go unseen, you had to actually not be in line of sight, or be well above your enemies. The way I thought of it was that in Dishonored, you had to earn your stealth. ![]() Despite Garret being weak executing all of these elements properly makes you feel very powerful.īoth of these games are masterpieces and i can't choose which one i like more but they are very different, these are 2 approaches on how to design stealth game and they both work amazingly. Game restrics your freedom, but in exchange gives you this amazing experience. ![]() Game even reinforces that when you play on expert by message on mission screen "you are a thief, not a murderer, don't kill anyone".īecause all of these things i will play thief very differently than dishonored., Garret doesn't have ability to see through walls so i need to listen to foosteps of guards to determine their positions, i will be careful about my every step, always looking at the floor that i am walking on and matching my speed and distance to the guards so i don't get heard, using shadows to my advantage to hide from them. In thief your job is to not get spotted, if you get spotted your only chance is running away. There is also the whole visibility system where the darker the shadow you stand in is, the less likely guards are to notice you. For example you can run on a carpet and not make a sound but even crawling on marble floor can make guards notice you. There is great emphasis on noise in this game, your footsteps will get louder or quieter depending on both your speed and what you walk on. So this is purely stealth game, stealth systems in this game are way more developed. Even defeating one guard in this game can be a serious challenge, i don't even want to mention hammerite haunt here. Garret is a normal human, he is much weaker than his enemies in terms of combat. Thief on the other hand is a game that limits the amount of things that your character can do and ways that you can play, but there is beauty in that. Even when you get caught you are much powerful in combat than your enemies.īasically the idea here is that you have super powerful character and super powerful tools, the main design principle of Dishonored is freedom in playing the mission in whatever way you want using them. Despite that, game strikes me as power fantasy, Corvo has various powers that make him way stronger than regular humans: he can see through walls (which makes stealth a bit easy), stop time, summon rats to kill enemies, teleport, even possess animals to enter buildings from the places that normal humans cannot. However it is very interesting that you play both of these games very differently and they both go for totally different thing when it comes to stealth.ĭishonored is a game where you can kill no enemies and still finish the game, in fact killing as little enemies as possible gives you good ending (however it has to be noted that you can kill way more of them than you think, someone calculated that you can kill 141 hostile guards and still get good ending). The old /r/patientgamers Essential Games Listīoth Dishonored and Thief are stealth games and both of them are masterpieces in this particular genre.
